Article 16 of Ordinance 3 applies to a shop floor too: adequately ventilated premises and an indoor climate that does not harm health. Tills, stockrooms and in-store kitchens are the hottest workstations.

No refrigerant

Nothing to declare, nothing to top up

In Switzerland a stationary installation holding more than 3 kg of refrigerant must be declared to the FOEN, and handling it requires a permit. An evaporative cooler uses nothing but water and air.

For the season

Rented by the month, taken back out of season

Mobile units for the hottest weeks, taken back when the season ends; or a fixed roof unit for a large store. All-inclusive monthly rent, CHF 0 up front.

One honest limit: in a fully closed, already air-conditioned store, evaporative cooling has no place — it needs fresh air and a way out. It takes over where the air conditioning can no longer keep up, or where the building has none.

Common questions

Does it replace air conditioning?

No. Where air conditioning exists and copes, it stays. Evaporative cooling is for open or poorly insulated spaces, and takes over when the air conditioning can no longer keep up on the hottest days.

Is it noisy for customers?

The manufacturer states 58 to 72 dB(A) depending on the model, at full speed. A unit rarely runs flat out, and where it stands changes everything: both are settled during the survey.

And once the summer is over?

The mobile unit is taken back out of season, or swapped for another if the need has changed. That is part of the monthly rent.
